Konza Technology City

For the first time Africa has an opportunity of having its own Silicon Savannah. A place that is known for its role in changing the lifestyle of humanity using computer systems. Konza is set to be one of the most successful cities in Africa, competing economically and culturally with the best cities in the world. Infrastructure

The original vision for Konza City included a strong emphasis on IT and IT-enabled services. It has since been dramatically broadened by the interest of Government of Kenya to include a wide range of commercial and support activities.
The Governments vision for the city composition in its present form includes: :
  •     Ready-built structures to house BPO and IT-Enabled Services
  •     Commercial office space
  •     Large scale commercial shopping malls
  •     Recreation and entertainment venues
  •     Hotels and Convention centre
  •     Residential developments of varying densities
  •     Community support services, including health clinics, green space, educational institutions, houses of worship, etc.
  •  Transportation infrastructure
  •   World class ICT infrastructure
  •   Utilities, roads and other infrastructure

Konza Technology City is based on successful planned cities projects around the world and draws on international best practice to ensure global competitiveness.

Features

Konza Technology City will deliver almost 100,000 jobs by 2030. and will feature:
  1.  Central Business District (CBD): easily accessible to all residents and workers by public transport, walking, cycling and by car. This CBD will contain commercial offices, shops, market, a district hospital, hotels, restaurants, leisure and entertainment facilities and other facilities of this nature.
  2.  University campus: capable of accommodating 1,500 students and promoting excellence in research and technology.
  3. Residential community: occupying almost 920 ha, providing almost 37000 homes and accommodating a resident population of 185,000 people. This includes space for the provision of schools, primary health care facilities, churches and other religious facilities, local recreation space and play space, and local shops.
  4. Parks and wildlife: green corridors occupying 624 ha will ensure Konza City develops and improves the environment. Plans to make a significant contribution to wildlife conservation have now been backed by Kenya Wildlife Conservancy. The plans will safeguard the unique ecology of the Savannah whilst promoting accessibly to Kenya’s special environmental habitats.
